How can I get thumbnails etc to appear on some video files?

I use MPC-HC with the latest CCCP codec pack to watch videos on my PC. Most videos in a folder will have thumbnails, and if I were to click on it, the video length info will be displayed at the bottom of the folder as well.

I've come across some random .mp4 files recently though that do not do this at all, no thumbnail or video length info. They seem to be intact and play fine, so I'm not sure why they're different. MKV files have never had thumbs and such for me either so I figure I'll ask, how can I have thumbnails and video length info display on video files that don't?

Look at #1, Media Preview. It's what I use.
