Video Maker Software - which free one is good?
Hi
I used to use Freemake Video Converter but they are basically not free anymore - well, yes, free but useless because they put their logo right in front of the screen and block your view unless you pay for a better version. Could someone recommend another freeware for similar purposes please? |

Hi Newcomer7-
What specifically do you want to do with videos? Freemake is primarily a convertor program with some minor editing capabilities. |

Hello Wither 2
One thing I wanted to do is to put separate clips together on a DVD from my PC, so that I can watch them on a DVD player. Flash drive is also fine if I know how to work with them. If it is really good - unlikely - I will even use it to burn some home videos on DVD because for some reason the software comes with the video recorder does not work properly. Thank you, |

In order to play a DVD on most standalone DVD players, the project has to be encoded to the DVD structure (Video_TS) and burned. That's called a DVD-Video disc. I can't tell for sure if hitfilm express burns a DVD-Video disc or is simply burning the project to disc, similar to a data disc. If it's the latter, one would need to be able to open the disc in the player software (TV software?) and select the file, in order to play it.
One can use Windows Live Movie Maker to burn a DVD-Video disc but the formats for the original files have to be in a format supported by Movie Maker. As far as I know, .mpeg-4 is not supported and would need to be converted to something like .wmv. Nero, Rokio, Cyberlink, etc., all have standalone video editing software which will do what he wants (plus a whole lot more) but it's not free. |

Thank you for all replies.
Based on the last one, perhaps I can try Nero because it comes with my laptop as a package... never tried it except for copying discs - silly me! Let me try it now. Thanks again. |

The free versions of Nero will not burn a DVD-Video, Blu-ray video or AVCHD-video disc. They will also not burn mpeg-4, .mts or .m2ts because Nero has to pay licensing fees to the patent holders and those fees are paid through purchase of their products. Their trial versions will allow you to burn up to 100 MB of data or 30 seconds of video. You can use something like .wmv to try them out.
