Can’t stream MP3s from WMP12 to my (UPNP) LG BD-390

Some history: After getting my BD390 (Blue Ray DVD player and more) about 2 months ago, I was happy to find out that my BD-390 was capable of streaming media (MP3s) from my Windows Media Player. (I am not happy at all with the Nero streaming feature and do not want to use it.) When I first tried this, it worked immediately… I was using Vista and WMP11. I wanted to improve my Wi-Fi router and got one that had “N” capability ( the bd390 is “N” compatible and recommended by LG). All of the other functions of the BD390 still worked (Netflix, etc.) but the streaming from WMP did not work with this N routher. While I could see my entire WMP library, when I tried to play any MP3 it would show the duration of the song but would not start playing the song. After a few seconds I would then get an error window stating “There my be network congestion!”

I reconnected by original router (Linksys WRT54G) and I again could see all and play any MP3 from my BD390. I tried several other new wireless routers and all had the exact problem.. I could see all my MP3s but when I tried to play them, I got the “There my be network congestion!” message. Even a new Linksys router would not work, even with Linksys level 2 help. I gave up and just used my original router.

OK. Here’s the question: I changed to Windows 7 a few weeks ago. This uses WMP12 which also supports streaming to the BD390.. I still was using my original WRT router. While I could see all my MP3s, they would not play… giving me the “There my be network congestion!” message. (I could see and play any of these MP3s in my PUBLIC Music folder!! Just could not get the WMP to stream them.)

I tried all sorts of things, including a direct cable connection – still the same non operation and same error message. I upgraded to a new combo DSL modem/ N wireless router – same problem!!

Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

Does anyone have the BD-390 successful streaming MP3s from WMP12 using Windows 7 ?

    Thanks to all…

What does your BD player have to do with streaming from WMP?

You don't need to use a BD player to stream music files, you could stream a DVD from the BD player, works perfectly IMO. I must be reading something incorrectly here but I can't figure out why you would need to use a BD player for streaming MP3 files from WMP?

In any event you can just right click the BD drive and then click the "share with" button then go to advanced sharing, just do what it says there in order to share your BD drive. Although you don't need to share that drive in order to stream MP3's from WMP.

You should be able to access and stream music straight from WMP or your music files from any computer in your network. If all the machines are using Win 7 why not use Homegroups and stream your music using that?

Bookfe - I haven't solved this yet... have it on several forums plus the LG support page.
chev65 - This BD player can stream media (wired or WiFi (N)) from the internet and my computer thru the router and let me see it on my TV or hear it over my stereo system. I used to be able to play my mp3s, which are stored on my computer, using the playlist and all the sorting and selection provided my WMP. A great feature. It also provides NetFlix, Vudu, YouTube, CinemaNow compatibility.

It seems that it is a special Windows 7 issue. I have logged in my old notebook, which runs with Windows XP and WMP 11. It is no problem to play media files with the WLAN player from this machine. The Windows 7 library is detected, but files cannot be streamed.

I'm not sure where the problem is... I also had a working system with Vista/WMP11 until I tried to use other routers... only the WRT54G would work...

It could be Win 7 or WMP12... or just a silly box that needs to be checked or unchecked someplace!!

I can see and stream videos that are in my WMP12... Plus I can stream MP3s from my public music folder..

    time will tell..

Exactly the same problem here. The BD390 sees the WMP server, browses through all folders and playlists, plays video and shows pictures. The only thing is that it does not play the mp3 from WMP (version 12 / Windows 7). It gives an error "possible network congestion". I installed Nero 4 Home Essentials and that works fine. I want to switch back to WMP though because of all my playlists.

I also noticed that the BD390 dos noet appear in the Windows 7 Network view. Could be an UNPN issue?

    Any help appreciated.

I gave up on WMP/BD390 and bought an Apple TV. It's a great product that gives you an excellent, very fast, visual presentation of all your albums and other media. Works without problems.

    same issue here

I have 2 different boxes running win7 and get the same network congestion error, and it works fine with my crummy old laptop running XP...every other feature on it works fine.

I just got off the phone with LG support and he said they have no record of this error, but the will research and get back to me...

I am really concerned as I have preorded the new BD590 and I assume it will have the same issues since they don't seem to be aware of the problem.

I will try to back rev WMP (if possible) and see if that fixes the issue...will post anything I hear.
