WMP default save location strips tracks MP3 music files when editing

I am using windows media player v 12.0.67... (up to dateV)
sometime in late DEC i accidentally altered the files included in my music Library, since then each time i edit either in WMP OR in file explorer the edited track is being saved to the default file and not back in the folder it was worked on, result i have lost half albums, depending on how many i edited

by Editing i am changing the Metadata to up date them ie a ripped file labeled Track1 should read 1- Luciano Pavarotti Ave maria / album artist / Contributing artist/ Album / year produced/ bit rate/ size/composer / conductor / etc.
and i prefer to paste in to WMP the thumbprint of the Album cover
the effort of locating the files in the default save is both time consuming and frustrating, it used ti just return them to the Album folders i set up.
so my query is 1 can i remove the default save that is in WMP . (if i hit remove it deletes the c:\drive /my music /37sub folders/ 3,000 tracks from the Library) and wants me to set a default save file in my i:\ completed albums file
i also have a separate backup of most (currently out of date) of the files on the C drive on the I:\ but not included in the player. 2/. where best to link the save file, to avoid this repositioning of the tracks

Late answer sorry...you will not get any info tracks by now as the WMP support had been dropped on Windows 7 back in June 2019

could read this thread: Windows Media Player Will Not Find Album Info

If you alter the file or the folder it will not consider the change and will only tag it as it reads it if it reads it, or even worst put it in an unknown album folder

i did a reply to Non 's post seems it has gone off in to the ether as it does not show up here

any way seems there is no quick solution, i am finding my files in the default location , so just hae to keep working as i need to get them OFF my internal c: drive before updating this PC to win 10 or transfer them to another PC , had hoped for a solution before support terminated. but that date is now past.

    It's never too late :)

You should install another media reader (i' ve use iTunes after the end of WMP support on Windows 7 happened back in June 2019) that will grab info tags for you, just the time to reorganize your library on your drive. Then back it up (your library) to transfer safely and organized to Win 10 or other PC. I can understand how frustrated you are and the time left on it.
