    Macrovision Fail in MPC

Well, the title says most of it. Whenever I insert a movieDVD and try to play it through Media Player Classic, I get a simple error saying "Macrovision Fail". I am currently using the Home Cinema Version 1.3.1333.0, the MPC Compiler is VS2008 and the FFmpeg Compiler is GCC 4.4.1, but I have had these problems with other Home Cinema builds as well. I haven't been poking around ffdshow settings, and the usual settings I change in MPC itself is to just use Haali's spliter for rendering clips, because all of my videos are H264/aac...
Might I also mention that at the same time WMP12 plays the DVDs normally.
    So what's the problem here?

    Hi there
might not be the answer you want but for playing DVD's (not yet Blu Ray - but coming) just download VLC - FREE -- has the Libdvdcss encryption / decryption already enbedded in it -- and works perfectly -- sub titles too -- one of the few DVD software players that don't have trouble with Icelandic (or Russian for that matter) subtiltles.

No probs on W7 X-86 or X-64 -- am using it on W7 X-64 Enterprise.

Excellent small Free application -- also plays every known AUDIO codec too.

VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player

    Cheers

Of course, I know about VLC, but was never keen to start using it :P
Besides, I'm really interested to know what the problem is...

I prefer MPC, so please don't post anymore links like that... If I wanted to change the software I sure wouldn't post this thread.

Just giving you another option to try to help you out.

I don't feel I was out of line for my suggestion.

It's okay, don't worry 'bout it
I have heard of and tried all the friggin' media players and I really prefer MPC. I also don't have any problem with watching DVDs in WMP, but this "Macrovision Fail" thing just bugs me to no end.

Maybe you don't want to hear my fix to get MPC to play DVDs...

(Run a customized Windows XP SP2 off a stick drive)

Seriously, I run into this problem in Win7, as well as a few other copy-protection security related issues.

    Hi, and welcome to SevenForums.

Thanks for your input, but there really was no need to resurrect such an old topic (you could've just sent me a PM ).
In the meantime I realized the importance of keeping my system clean of codec chaos, so I settled with VLC. Does this "Macrovision fail" bug still appear in the newer versions of MPC? I'm just curious.
