Hey guys I had a same problem, and I resolved it with a same way, but my problem is that I want my display be calibrated the way I want. So am I suppose yo choose to have normal working Windows Photo Viewer or Calibrated display, or I have other solution to calibrate my display ??? (cuz I don't wanna have other photo viewer). Maybe I can calibrate it somehow else??
Pleas let me know if you know anything about this, thank you very much.

SOLUTION - At some stage you probably color calibrated your display using the tool in Windows 7. As soon as you remove this calibration profile speed will return to normal.

Right Click Desktop -> Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings -> Color Management -> Color Management -> Advanced -> Change System Defaults

Then click on the default profile (the one you are using now) and click Remove. The profile should have some string in it like 'calibrated' ( I forget, I just deleted mine ). Make sure the new default profile does not have the 'calibrated' string in it. When you click Remove you will probably note some change in the screen colors as another profile becomes the default.

Now suddenly the image viewer will be lightning fast.
    Go figure.

The problem I had with Windows 7 Photo Viewer is some of my pictures would be displayed vertically compressed, often severely. I fixed that by using M$ Office Picture Manager instead. Even that one isn't as good as the picture viewer XP had.

Thanks "Spankmaster"'s solution I no longer have the windows image viewer being so slow. Well done. I will add that I delete my profiles, and had no profiles at all. It was a little confusing to the fact if there should or shouldn't be a profile, it's fine if you delete the profile and there are none left. Your system will work.
