Windows Photo Viewer is insanely SLOW!
Right Click Desktop -> Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings -> Color Management -> Color Management -> Advanced -> Change System Defaults Then click on the default profile (the one you are using now) and click Remove. The profile should have some string in it like 'calibrated' ( I forget, I just deleted mine ). Make sure the new default profile does not have the 'calibrated' string in it. When you click Remove you will probably note some change in the screen colors as another profile becomes the default. Now suddenly the image viewer will be lightning fast. Go figure. does sombody know the default settings of a clean install of w7 sp1? thanks |

Sorry to bump this, but is there another solution that doesn't involve deleting ICC profiles? In my opinion, having to "un-calibrate" my monitor is an unsatisfactory way to "solve" this problem.

I have this problem, whenever I open explorer, or leave it for a few seconds and go back to it, the second time i open a photo(same one or different one) has a 4 second delay before photo viewer opens. I can keep clicking the photo during this and it will result in multiple openings. It's always the second time I try to open a photo after waiting several seconds or re opening explorer. I fi open a photo and just minimize it, the second one opens fast.
None of the above suggestions worked. I have no color profile enabled. I set default programs. I did the cachesize registry tweak. I just reinstalled my OS onto an SSD, and didnt have this problem before. I've used custom ICC profiles before and never had this problem (not using one currently). I dont want to use irfanview, The zoom/pan controls in it are awful. |

Should be a sticky
Windows Photo Viewer" program utilizes Windows Imaging Component (WIC) to take all advantages of the advanced Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) architecture.
Delete the color profiles using: 1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type colorcpl.exe in RUN dialog box and press Enter. It'll open Color Management window. 2. Now go to Advanced tab and click on "Change system defaults..." button. 3. Now select the default profile and click on Remove button. If you see other profiles having calibrated term in their names, delete them as well. 4. Close all programs and restart Windows. It should solve the slow Windows Photo Viewer problem. |

Windows Photo Viewer is sometimes slow to load (but not always) The experiment I did: 1. Copy a moderately sized (400-500kb) jpg image on desktop (from some other location i.e. folder/web etc.). 2. Double Click the file (it will load pretty fast in Win Photo Viewer). 3. Now close Windows Photo Viewer, double click the file again (This time, it will... |
