    change default dvd-program

I wonder how I change the default program for dvd's. Now, when I double-click the dvd in "Computer", Windows Media Player is started. I have powerdvd installed. In file associations it shows that .vob is linked to powerdvd. Is there a way so that when I doubleklick the dvd I want to play powerdvd is started.

I don't want to delete windows media player (I haven't found out yet how you do it yet).

Yeah, thought so (sorry if my English is bad).

Then I have a screen with 4 possibilities.

    1) Set your default program: looks like it, but Powerdvd ain't shown there
    2) Associate a file type or ... :Ok, maybe this. But which file type is used when I double-klick the dvd in "my computer"
    3) Change autoplay: This is used when I insert a dvd in my computer (so this ain't it, I guess)
    4) Set program access and computer defaults: If it's here, I can't find it. (custom: media player -> doesn't show Powerdvd in the list)

    What I read there is:

    Enable access: Winamp
Disable access: Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center

    When I do this:

    1- Go to control Panel
2- Choose programs and feature (not uninstall)
3- CHoose Turn Windows Feature On or Off on the left of the screen
    4- Find Media Features
    5- Unmark "Windows Media Player"

When I do this, it works. However: suddenly Internet Explorer is removed :s.

My perfect sollution would be where wmp (and wmc) and IE are still there, but NOT standard programs.

Maybe this tutorial would help...Open With - Change Default Program

This might work as a work-around:

    Have you tried:

Click Start/ Choose Default Programs/change Auto Play options

for DVD Choose: Ask me Everytime (if power DVD is not an option)

    Then put in a DVD

you should get a pop up window now asking you:
    Play DVD with:
(and a list of all capable programs)

If you choose Power DVD, check the box in the bottom left corner:
    Do this everytime

    Will that work for you?

Autoplay is a separate Control Panel file in Windows 7. Just select it and choose Ask me every time for DVD and Enlhanced DVD. The first time it does there is a feature that lets you tell it to make the app you choose the automatic choice. Realplayer Basic, iTunes and Quicktime should play DVD movies as an alternative to Winodws Media Player. Not sure they still do.

There are a number of free dvd movie players at Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com . Media Player Classic has been a favorite for years. Cnet just rated the Win 8 version last week, Media Player Classic - CNET Download.com
