WMP library not showing AAC files

I've read that WMP12 now plays AAC files but why isn't my library showing my Music that are in .M4A?

Good question. The few that I have show up. I know I have some extra codecs downloaded, but I was under the impression that it would play m4a natively....

WMP12 natively supports HE-AAC encoded files only, the rest of the combinations can only be played with additional codec installed. My whole music collection is in aac (.m4a, WMP can't read tags in .aac files), ripped with Winamp's HE-AAC encoder, and I've never experienced a single problem.
