Desktop icons disappeared after system restart

    Hi,
I have got a HP dv4 (T6600 processor, 4GB RAM) laptop with Win 7 home premium preloaded. I created the recovery disks and then restarted my machine.

But the weird thing after the restart is that the icons on my desktop have disappeared completely. The only thing visible is Task bar and the wallpaper. Strangely though, I discovered that the 'Desktop folder' does have all the icons but it does not get reflected onto the screen even if try sending an app. icon by doing 'Send to Desktop -> Create Shortcut'. Instead that thing gets added to the Desktop folder only.

Could any one please suggest what should I do to get my machine desktop to show the missing icons.

    Thanks in advance!!!!

    Hi Pranab, welcome to SF

Right click desktop under view make sure there is a tick beside show desktop icons if not click it and voila
Some people have a problem with this randomly unticking itself not sure why but will bring them back

Hello, I have the same problem now. My sister was playing some game a few hours ago and after quitting that desktop icons have disappeared. I tried restarting the computer many times, but it did not help me. When I do right click on desktop, then click "view" and then I have a look on "show desktop icons", it is checked. If I uncheck it and check it again, desktop icons will appear. But after rebooting, they disappear again. Any idea how to fix it ? Thanks.
