WMP12 won't update Music folders from WHS

    Hi,

I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64bit and have all my Music stored on my WHS with pp3. When I moved all my music from my local machine to my server WMP12 saw all folders fine.

Now when I add new folders (albums, artists) WMP12 will only update the play list that is included in the album rip (.m3u). It will not update the folders. As soon as I add a new folder, I can see WMP12 update, but only the .m3u and not the folder. The new artist/album won't show up in album, artist, or gender views as well. I let WMP12 run 24/7 and it would not show me the new folders added.
I can play the new play list and in Now Playing can switch views to album and see the newly added album with artwork. The play list shows the entire album list as well.

I have deleted the Media Player folder from with my user account and tried to let WMP12 rebuild my music, but that won't work.

My music is accessed through the Libraries\Music\\ SERVER NAME\Music to my shared Music folder on my server.
I have tried to remove the shared music folder (default folder on server) closed WMP12, restart everything, then add the shared Music folder back to my local Music Library and rebuild. This let me access the folders through explorer fine BUT, I get a message
"Windows added the location to your library, but couldn't share the location."
    more information tab then says
    SERVER NAME\Music
"Windows can't change this folder's sharing settings because it's on another computer."
When I try to re-add the Libraries\Music\\ SERVER NAME\Music under Organize/manage libraries/music only the play lists get added. (no folders)

I have the same (default) share settings for Music/Videos/etc. My SERVER NAME\Video folder has no issues with newly added files. I don't have the Video folder set up in WMP12.

I have foobar2000 installed and it sees everything (new and old) just fine and runs without issue. I want to use WMP12 because I use WMC a lot and don't want to switch back and forth between applications, and stream to my Xbox360. Foobar2000 has no issues accessing the new folders, so how could it be a sharing/permission issue?

I have read countless forums for days and can't seem to find a solution. Other than the constant WMP12 bashing, I can't find an answer. This is a basic function and should work without issue.

So, what am I missing (is WMP12 just that buggy?)

    Anybody?

Go to start menu and type in troubleshooting. Hit enter and a window will pop up. Click on programs. Go down to media player and either use the first (reset media player settings) or preferable the second troubleshooter (make media files show up in the library) If the second troubleshooter doesn't work, then use the first one and basically "reset" media player to default settings. If that doesn't work, you can try whatever you did with the 64 bit version of media player : C:Program files/Windows media player/wmplayer.exe (If you have windows 7 64 bit). If that doesn't work either, then the settings you want are probably unavailable.
Sorry, I cannot help you much more =( but there are some other people (like shark007) who are more knowledgeable about this topic
    Hope I helped!!

    Thanks for the reply.
I did both of your suggestions. My Media Library was coppurted, so it was then 'reset'.
WMP was then set to default settings as well.
WMP is currently going through my 450 GB library and looking for updates.
BTW, I also ran this last night.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

and it found NO issues. So, maybe it couldn't detect that my Media Library was corrupted? Seems it should have found that.

Thanks again and crossing my fingers my library will get updated this time. I figure I'll let it run for a several hours and see if it picks up the missing folders.

    Issue resolved.

The Music library still would only update the playlists after doing the above suggestions.

I ended up doing a Repair Install.
Uninstalled WMP & WMC and then re-installed.

Same issue when adding the Music share to WMP.

So, knowing I had a corrupt file/files I went and created another administrator user account/copied everything over and now WMP12 updated everything as soon as it saw my server.

I'm wondering how long until it breaks again.
