Windows 7 plays Quicktime .mov files natively
I did a clean install of 7068 (I know, surprise surprise) and literally seconds after I got an email about the new Terminator HD trailers at TERMINATOR SALVATION
I wasn't paying attention and clicked http://pdl.warnerbros.com/wbmovies/t...atorTRL2_L.mov and IT PLAYED -- no Quicktime, no QT Alternative, it just played! Please note, Warner Brothers, like many other content authors are unabashed asshats and check the referrer on links like this so it won't play when clicked from this post. Go to the TERMINATOR SALVATION page above to check it out.
Further research shows that streamed QT junk still won't play without Crapple software or it's alternative but this is still a big step forward in decluttering Windows boxen everywhere. Heck with SumatraPDF replacing Adoobie PDF reader crapware I might never need to waste 100MB disk space and add install crashware startup tray applets just to play a simple file format again!
Yay! I'm just way too happy about this!
Edit: can't believe this is not getting more attention. Was this known an I missed it or has Quicktime just become a total non-issue these days?
