Music/video played as background won't keep playing

Running Win 7 64 bit on a home built machine. When I play AV from the Internet, e.g. radio or a HULU TV show, or play a DVD video, the player runs about 5-10 minutes and then stalls. I have to wiggle my mouse to restart. I though it was connected to my screen saver, so I reset it to none. Then I though it was connected to a background slide show, which I've set to change images after 60 minutes. I can't find any display or personal preferences settings that keep this from happening. If I'm doing anything else (like typing this thread) the machine knows I'm working and never shuts down. But if I leave it to play in the background while I work on something else in the room, it won't keep playing. Where do I control this?

    Thanks!

Check power settings in control panel and select high performance, sounds as though the comp is powering down the drives or something similar, if this cures the problem then you can customise power plan after

    Hope this helps

Go to start menu, type in troubleshoot, hit enter, then click on hardware and sound. Use the troubleshooting packs there for sound and hardware devices.

I already changed to high performance power settings, with 60 minutes before anything should kick in anywhere. And troubleshooting hardware and sound packs all say everything is working fine. I would have guessed it to be burps in my internet if the problems were only on downloads, but playing a DVD shows the same behavior.

Power is already set to high performance. I rand the troubleshooting packs, Win Media Player DVD, playing audio, playing and burning CD, DVDs, all show nothing. The Hardware and Devices pack give this message, which I don't understand.

That is a driver, but it has nothing at all to do with sound, something to do with network i think. That may or may not be your problem.

I disabled that Teredo Tunneling--no change on the behavior. Sound and video shut down regularly. Power settings are maxed out with nothing that should turn off in less than 30 minutes, so I remain puzzled. Any more ideas?
