Are there any free players out there that can play blu-ray? I dont really want to spend £80 odd for it.

    Not for free. You can:

    1) Purchase Slysoft AnyDVD HD to decrypt the film on the fly and use VLC to watch it (theoretically)

    2) Rip the film to your hard disk, and then watch it.

VLC supports the codec but as for encrypted films, not yet.

If you have a software such as AnyDVD active, you can play the main movie (no menu's, no extra's) with MPC-HC acquired from my tools page. In the players internal filters list on the left, (Source Filters) be sure to select the MPEG PS/TS/PVA filter. To play the movie, choose open DVD, and select the blu-ray drive.

swarfega, I would like to have an answer but unfortunately, because of those numerous DRM that a blu-ray movie contains, we're not bound to have a free software that decrypts everything for free anytime soon. That's why that are also heavily downloaded too...

I know this thread is super old but considering it's still in the top five results on google for Windows 7 bluray playing...
digiarty has a free bluray player called DaPlayer. I've only tested it with one or two disks so I'm not sure if it will work in all instances with all disks, but it does work.
