Why are some pictures saved from the internet SQUASHED?

This was a problem in Vista, some pictures that were saved off of the internet would pop up squashed when opened up in Windows Photo Viewer - but if I opened it up in any other imaging program it would show up normally. I thought the squashed pictures would be fixed when I upgraded to Windows 7, but the same pictures are still squashed when I open them up in the Windows Photo Viewer. Here's an example.

Help asap, would be much appreciated.

I've stayed away from the Microsoft image viewers for reasons like this.

I would recommend going with another viewer, like Irfan View (IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide) or my favorite, XnView (XnView Software - Free graphic and photo viewer, converter, organizer) which can handle about 400 different formats. (Both of the above are free.)

i am no fan of the built in programs of windows. my view is that the added programs should be offered after you reach the desktop the first time after installing windows, so you can pick and choose with microsoft programs you actually want. i do not believe in be forced to having to go to program and features to remove the ones you do not want. however even with that said i have never had a problem with the windows picture viewer. i use it for a quick view.

I use Irfan for crops and some minor color enhancements. I like the Windows viewer because of its clean look, I haven't seen any other viewer that looks half as good. I just wish bugs like this would be updated out.
