    WMP 12 Rating System Bug?

    Greetz to all...

Your help here would be tremendous since no one else seems to understand this issue. I have an older system (3 years old) currently being used for playing media. Everything in Windows 7 64 bit is working just fine for several months now.

Recently the 'star' rating no longer works . Viewing any media shows the star rating column though the stars remain grayed out. The only advice I can find to turn the rating system back on so that I can record my ratings is to do a system restore. I am a little apprehensive about doing that for fear of effecting other programs, etc. Any advice?

    Welcome!

First, could you please post a screenshot of your problem?

Also, did you turn off the rating system somehow? How can you turn it back on?

If you are nervous about changing a setting, create a restore point first.

    Hi MacroGraphics,

You could try repairing it with FixWMP, or reinstalling it as shown in this tutorial. Let me know if either one helps!

Jonathan King - thank you...should have up'd that in the first place. Here is a screen capture, but it's rather uneventful. In this capture, you can see the ratings column in my list. No matter my efforts, I cannot click on the stars to leave myself the notation whether or not I liked a song that had just played. They are grayed out and won't lite up when cursoring over. I tried saving the played music as a playlist without any changes.

WalkerA - Thank you for the advice. I ran both of your protocols. Reinstalling WMP via appwiz.cpl created no changes. The second downloaded program "FixWMP v1.0" re-registered the dll files, but again made no changes.

Thanks to the both of you for your responses. Any other possible ideas that would get my WMP rating system to work again is very appreciated. (Thanks).

The song cannot be rated in the Now Playing window. That is normal. If the song is in your Library, you can rate it.

Jonathan...that was a quick response. Trying to comprehend your meaning of my library.

You're exactly right. The rating system works when the file is in my library. This is what I get for years of using Winamp. So apparently, I don't have anything wrong with WMP, instead I need to link my played music through the library. I was rating music without creating libraries in the past, but I will from now on.
