    Laggy video and screensaver

A few days ago I noticed my screensaver had begun to be very choppy. While annoying, it wasn't a big deal. It happens to all the screensavers, but they all work perfectly well while in preview mode. I, then noticed that video playback (from Netflix or hulu, for instance) also became choppy. Which is a much bigger deal. It starts out fine and after a minute or so becomes choppy. If I move the mouse around it works fine again. Internet searches have only found one similar problem with no solution. I'm stumped. Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you have the latest drivers for your video card? Try running a virus/malware scan as well. Welcome to the forums .

Thanks! I downloaded and installed the latest drivers when the problem started. No luck there. I've done a spybot scan, and ad-aware scan. Nothing there either.

UPDATE: I am running a full scan using Microsoft Securities Essentials, and I happen to have the system resources gadget open on the desktop. After a few minutes of inactivity the CPU jumps to 100%, then goes back down to around 10% as soon as I move the mouse. So the video lag must be coming from whatever is causing my CPU usage to skyrocket. Not good...
