again isnt AC3 for SOUND - sound is fine its the video
Yep AC-3 is sound and AVC is MPEG4. The obvious difference between the ones that won't play and the ones that will play (from your captures) is the Audio codec, There are often different versions of the same codec and each may react differently with various players, I guess that's why someone suggested that you replace this codec as well (even though sound is working).

    - Did your try the direct driver links I posted earlier?
    - Did you try to install GOMplayer, play the file and if it works try WMP again?

You can cut a 2 min video out of it (for example using Avidemux), upload it somewhere and post a link to it for download.

Thanks for providing the file. It's hideously busted according the the specification author's own tool mkvalidator available for Windows here Downloads for Windows | Matroska

    Here's the output:
    ..
ERR120: Extra TrackInfo found at 1211736069 (size 407)
ERR065: The SeekPoint at 94 references a TrackInfo at wrong position 1211736069 (real 564) .
ERR0B1: Block at 64873 track #2 is not a keyframe

... repeating thousands of times -- file is skewed

    ERR0B1: Block at 1211619484 track #2 is not a keyframe .................................................................................................... ...............
file created with matroska muxer by Alexander Noe, build date Aug 30 2008 / AVI-Mux GUI 1.17.8, Aug 30 2008 12:36:58

Whatever was able to play that file was doing it out of pure, dumb luck. I tried to fix the file with mkclean.exe and it too promptly crashed. I'd bee looking for another copy of that episode...

The mention of Keyframes would be setting in the x264 encoder itself. If thats all screwed up, the only way to fix it is grab an original copy of the disc and recode it completely.

Unless the app that created the MKV broke it. Not sure what the AVI-Mux is it mentions or how well it works but ...
Maybe try demuxing to raw files and re-muxing with MKVmerge, but thats doubtful it will work.

mkclean.exe is a remuxer written by the folks that wrote the Matroska spec. It crashed trying to deal with this file. It's garbage and he needs a new copy.

It is not hidden, you agree to its installation during the install process. It is installed as an attempt to help support FREE software. I have spent litterally 1000's of hours developing this FREE software and the Bing bar puts a few $$ in my pocket. It can be uninstalled from Control Panel | Programs and features.

It is a well known FALSE POSITIVE as a result of the scripting language, AutoIt, which I use to develop Settings32.exe. If you take the time to notify your antivirus and or your malware provider, they will investigate and remove it from their detection process.
