    Video Performance Help Please

    Hello,

I am experiencing difficulty playing video from the Internet. Today, I installed iTunes, in anticipation of obtaining my new iPhone, and I was viewing the Tutorials in iTunes. However, they would only play for about 4-7 seconds, then stall. I received instructions from Apple for uninstalling completely and reinstalling all the iTunes/Quicktime components. Now, the same video tries to play, but does not even start. It has the Quicktime "Q" with a question mark inside (?).

So, giving up on this, I went to watch some TV at hulu. I was redirected to the ABC site where buffering continued to cause intermittent problems such that I could not enjoy viewing of the content. Then I went to hulu hosted content, and that basically failed.

Is there a hardware or software setting which can be changed to increase the video buffering?

Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Antonio !!

You know, each video (and audio) files are not the same. They are different on the basis of their respective extension type. Such as a video DVD contains .vob files whereas a video cd contains .dat files.

only a few audio and video file formats are suppotred by iTunes and Quick times. Basically most of the internet movie files are either flv or avi files, so they are not able to play with apple's programs. Better you download and install either Shark007's wmp12 codecs to play everything in WMP 12 ; or you may install VLC media player, which plays all file formats. Use iTunes only for iPhone Synchronization.

    Love/Hate Media Players

    Arc,

Thanks for the informative response. Thru following Apple's instructions for completely uninstalling its i-apps, then reinstalling 'fresh', as well as installing the K-Lite codecs, I was able to get my system to work, albeit with a little jerky video on ABC, but that was probably more their quality issue than mine.

I do appreciate your input on iTunes, however, because I was just 'biting the bullet' to learn it because it goes with iPhone. If I don't have to use it, I would rather not. The only problem is that they have changed WMP so much that I don't like that much better. So, I will take your advice and try the VLC Media Player.

    Take good care,
