Leaving router and modem on forever bad?

Yes 10+ years of having high speed internet and my router and modem is on 24x7.

imeem, not really. If your router is getting hot for some reason, it might. When it comes down to it, saying having it on all the time is bad is like saying having your refrigerator on all the time is bad.

Frequent on/off power cycles are more stressful to electronic equipment than never powering off.

Unfortunately, being forced to turn it off. My wife even turns off the LED nightlights in order to "conserve energy"

... I told her the reason I bought the expensive LED nightlights was to leave them on all the time.

Of course, my old DSL Westell Versalink got hella hot, so I started turning it off since I thought leaving it on would shorten its life... started a bad precendence. So, now I basically have to

Whatcha gonna do?

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention... the computer? Off when not in use, even if next use is going to be same day.

And the "aircraft argument"?... didn't work.

Try the Sleep mode for your computer. It looks like it is off.

Not sure if it is sleep or hibernate, but one of the two (or both) clearly shows that my computer is still on. Why? Along with my new computer, I swindled in a new mouse and gamepad (kb, not controller... see my specs). Both have bright blue LEDs that shine upwards when powered, illuminating the ceiling, and they stay on when the computer is not truly off. Unplugging the gamepad is not too hard (plugged into extension USB cable), but the mouse is a different story.

If you happen to know how to power down the USB ports, I'm all ears... though I don't quite know what I would accomplish with it... it would still be unusable and not able to remote since the modem is off.
