Windows 7 Computer & PS3 File Sharing Questions:

I have recently discovered that I can connect my PS3 to my laptop through my router and share files, which allows me to watch my movies on my TV. The movies, tv shows, etc. I keep stored on my external HDD so that I do not clutter up, or bog down my laptop.

Up to this point, I have been transferring the files back and fourth between the "Video" folder in "Libraries", and my external HDD, but it would be much simpler if I could set my external HDD as a sharing folder, and just plug it in when I want to watch something.

Is there anyway I can make this drive public for sharing?

83 views and no replies... That can't be good.

Does anyone know how to do this or is it not possible.

Make sure the external hard drive is connected to your computer and that your computer recognizes the device.

    1. In the taskbar, click the Windows Explorer button .
    2. In the navigation pane (the left pane), click Computer, and then navigate to the folder on your external hard drive that you want to include.
    3. In the toolbar (above the file list), click Include in library, and then click a library (for example, Documents).

    Note

Folders from removable media devices (such as CDs and DVDs) and some USB flash drives can't be included in a library.

I have done this, and now it shows as this:

However, when I load up the PS3 and go to videos, it displays the folder as being empty. I know it will play the videos from their respective folders (I have 6 seasons of entourage, and it would always display them all in a list as if the folder did not even exist, even though it did), but it isn't showing anything at all.

    Any ideas?

There is a small utility that can allow you to properly add a network drive to the Windows 7 Library, as it's not exactly a supported feature of Library's.

It may help to name a folder on the F drive named "Videos" and put them all in that folder, it should say F:/Videos rather than F:/Greg, because from what I read, the PS3 will not recognize it as a Video file unless it's named Videos.
