Windows 7: Windows 7 login freezes because of saved vpn shares ?

Windows 7 login freezes because of saved vpn shares ?

Running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
Using Cisco VPN client to connect to my work network. Basically I use few shares which reside on that private network - I just preserved these shares using "net use" command. Of course these shares are functional only when Cisco VPN client program is running (it needs password to enter interactively in order to run). Anyway when login is being made my work network is nonexistent, and shares won't work of course.
Windows 7 freezes login screen for about 40 seconds because of these shares(checked that). Been running exactly the same setup on Windows XP Pro for years with no problems. It's really annoying to wait, and I don't want to remove these shares because I use them frequently.

Could someone please suggest solution for this ? (decrease timeout?)

thanks in advance

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

The link below is in the following thread for setting up a Cisco VPN was in the link posted at Technet. Might help you set this up properly.

How to (Successfully) Install Cisco VPN Client on Windows 7 - Brenton House

I realize that you already have this info from your Technet thread but there does seem to be quite a few who have it working. Just not sure if the issue is the same as yours.
Windows 7 login freezes because of saved vpn shares ?

This worked for me.

1. Install Cisco DNEupdate. DNE Support - Deterministic Networks
2. Reboot
3. Take ownership and delete ndis.sys (in c:\windows\system32\drivers).
4. Take ownership and delete ndis.sys.mui (in c:\windows\system32\drivers\en-us).
5. Install Cisco VPN Client or above.
6. Reboot
7. Windows 7 will repair itself (because we deleted those files). This will take a minute or so and it will automatically reboot.
8. All should work well!

Win 7 Ultimate 32bit

You also may have to just re-install DNE as it can get corrupted and cause different kinds of issues.

Do make sure you are running at least 5.x version VPN Client as stated by chev65
The latest version is (you will need a cisco login to download from this link, You might be able to create one by following the instructions there) Make sure you get the 32bit or 64bit as required.

To reinstall DNE....

Go into Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center
on the right click "Change Adapter Settings"
Right click your Network Connection (any should do, such as Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection)
and choose properties. Make sure you get the one that does not say Cisco Systems VPN Adapter, (just because)
On the Networking Tab you will see Deterministic Network Enhancer
Select that and click uninstall
You may not see much or anything happening,, give it time to finish and then reboot.
When you log back in, go back in and click Install / Service / Deterministic Network Enhancer and click OK
Again, let it finish (which you may or may not see much or anything happening) then reboot again. Even if you are not prompted.
When you get back in, DNE should be done with a reinstall. Without having to reinstall VPN Client completely. Which my need to be done, but reinstalling DNE fixes 99% of all problems with VPN connectivity issues of all kinds.
