Minor problem - Windows or Comcast?

I bought my new Dell (Windows 7 Pro) and moved up to a cable modem (Comcast) at right about the same time two months ago. I’m now seeing a problem and I’m not sure if it’s something I can rectify within Windows or need to yell at Comcast about. I do a lot of downloading movies from a variety of peer-to-peer networks, which can sometimes take several hours, depending on the speed of the modem of the user I’m getting them from. As long as I’m at my keyboard multitasking in other windows, all is fine. However, if I step away for maybe 3 hours or longer, my first hint that something has changed is that the “ON’ button on the front of my tower has changed from a blue light to a yellow light, matching that of my “sleeping” monitor. Not only have all my networks been disconnected, but my Internet Explorer windows are saying they can no longer find the sites I left them parked on. Luckily, my movie-downloading app has a “resume” feature so I can pick up mid-movie where it quit and just a refresh of IE gets me back to web site but this is a royal pain. Can I fix that here or do I need to yell at Comcast?

At a guess, your PC is going into Sleep mode.

Check your settings in the Power control panel. I'm not sure how to prevent the PC going to sleep, other than disabling sleep mode altogether. (There must be a way, though. I'm pretty sure that the machine won't sleep if Windows Media is streaming.)

I doubt that Comcast has anything to do with it.

Hot dang, Bob! I'd not ever known about power settings but, since I'm not all that worried about my electric bill, I just told it to NEVER sleep. Thanks beaucoup.

You can always put it to sleep manually if there are times when you want to use it. And if that doesn't work, get a hammer. That's how I always got my kids to go to sleep.

    Just in case...I'M KIDDING.
