File Sharing on Windows 7 VPN Server

    Here is the scenario:

VPN Server is set up on Windows 7 Professional machine behind DSL modem and router with port forwarding enabled. I have no trouble connecting or logging in from any client computer regardless of operating system (with the exception of clients whose outbound traffic is going through Linksys WRT54-G wireless router, but that is not my issue).

The installation of Windows 7 is fresh with no new programs installed. I have created one test folder for sharing and have enabled all sharing possibilities that I know of for one user account, which is the same user account that is logging in over the VPN. I have enabled the "Network Shares" for this user as well as the "NTFS Shares."

All client computers which have been tested for logging in through the VPN are in the same workgroup (NOT Homegroup). The workgroup shows up in the "New Network Place" Wizard of the client computer, but the folder I have manually shared is not visible. As a result, the test file I created and shared within that folder is not accessible, nor is it visible on the client.

What I would like to find out is this:

HOW IN THE BLAZES DO I GET FILE SHARING TO WORK ON A WINDOWS 7 VPN SERVER??????

(Note to Microsoft...if you're actually listening...this used to be set up on an XP VPN and all I had to do was tell XP who I wanted to share a file with and it worked. Why did you mess this up?)

Any suggestions are appreciated and I will be glad to answer questions to the best of my ability, but please ask in PlainSpeak. I was a geek in the '80's, but have become lax over the years.

    Thanks,
    Charles

Have you added "Everyone" to the permissions list? Any type of A/V software you have installed can also cause problems with sharing.
