New laptop, unidentified network and limited acces!

I just got a new laptop, its the toshiba satellite a665 model. When I try to connect to my home network, the connection fails and it gives me limited connectivity, or limited access. I've tried reinstalling my wireless network driver. I've tried power cycling. I've tried turning the firewall off. I've tried restoring the computer to factory defaults. Nothing is working, not even geek squad, or toshiba tech support could help. Does anyone have a solution?

How to update windows 7 drivers to vista drivers?

Can anybody help me on this, I've found a problem and I think this may be the solution, if I can update my wireless driver and use the vista driver to update it with that might solve it. How do I do this?

You have to make sure you have the right driver. A 32-it driver won't work on a 64-bit OS and vice-versa. Other than that there usually isn't any problems but to be safe you may want to install it in compatibility mode. Right click the driver installer, click properties, and go to the compatibility tab. check the box for Run in compatibility mode, choose Vista SP2, and check the "run this program as an admin" box.

Assuming your new laptop is made for Windows 7 the drivers shouldn't be a problem as they are installed automatically and should be up to date.

The router you are using is probably not up to date which is a common problem and can cause all sorts of connection problems.

Which model of router are you using? Have you attempted to update the firmware on your router yet?

Being a wireless connection there is always the possiblity of this being a channel crosover problem. You can use Xirrus Wi-fi to find an unused channel.

I have an actiontect router, the model is ML424-WR I will try updating its firmware.
The default login and password isn't working so I am going to have to reset my router. I've never done this before, when I reset it will all the devices on the network be kicked off? If so are they going to have to enter the new password to get into the network?

Assuming that you have DHCP enabled, resetting the router will disconnect your other machines for a minute then it will reconnect automatically. The default password for the router is usually admin unless you change it to something else. Other uses won't need a password to connect to your routers network.
