Network problem with NAS
Ok, here goes!
Hi, and thanks for what I think may be my last hope... I came across this site searching for an answer to a question I've put up on many forums all over.
I've found many people with the same problem, and I've found equally as many solutions to that same problem. I've applied the solutions on my computer, but NONE have been the one solution for me... That's strange because many people describe the problem exactly the same.
So my problem.
I bought a NAS, the Netgear ReadyNas DUO ant put a hdd inside. Connected it to my router, (Dovado 3GN), and ran the install cd that came with it. The program that searched for the NAS found it, and displayed it's name and ip correctly. Ran the wizard and it went all very smoothly.
Then the problem started. I could not see the NAS in windows 7 network. I've tried so many solutions and settings, from going in to the regedit and changing Network security stuff, to uninstalling virus-software and deactivating windows firewall. Reset every setting on the Dovado router, and restarted like 100 times... Noting.
On my laptop with Windows Vista, the Netgear came up just fine and both showed up in "Network places" and under "Computers". I was also able to map it to a "drive" ieg z: without any problems.
I thought the Netgear was faulty and went to the store and got it exchanged for a Dlink-323 NAS instead.
When I came home and reinstalled that NAS (and removed the Netgear settings) It seemed to be the EXACT same problem. I can see the NAS on my Vista Laptop.
I set up a FTP and can connect to it from another computer on another network via Internet.
The Facts:
I CAN ping the NAS from the Win7 computer, works just fine
I CAN connect to the NAS via FTP from the Win7 computer.
I CAN see the nas under "Storage Devices", but clicking on it, sends me to the Dlink setup http page (http://192.168.0.160)
I CAN'T acces the NAS via \\192.168.0.160 or \\192.168.0.160\media or with the Dlink name \\dlink-323 or \\dlink-323\media .. It just says that there's a network problem. "Are you sure you spelled correctly" etc...
I CAN connect and map the NAS from my Win Vista computer just fine, (that's via WiFi if that matters at all)
I CAN access and map the NAS as a drive from my Win XP computer (that's via network cable if that matters at all)
The thing is that I've also tried to connect to my Windows Vista shares from my Win 7 computer and failed there to. But I CAN see the Vista computer under "Network / Computers"
Things I've tried:
Disable Virus software
Disabled Windows software like firewall etc.
Changed in the registry, the Network security and encryption and stuff
Tried to disable the IPv6 and so on
Tried different settings for fixed IP and DHCP, nothing there...
Can't seem to find the solution to this maybe simple problem... So I hope there is a kind soul out there to help me.. I'm about to get too frustrated and cry
