    Network problem with NAS

    Ok, here goes!

Hi, and thanks for what I think may be my last hope... I came across this site searching for an answer to a question I've put up on many forums all over.

I've found many people with the same problem, and I've found equally as many solutions to that same problem. I've applied the solutions on my computer, but NONE have been the one solution for me... That's strange because many people describe the problem exactly the same.

    So my problem.

I bought a NAS, the Netgear ReadyNas DUO ant put a hdd inside. Connected it to my router, (Dovado 3GN), and ran the install cd that came with it. The program that searched for the NAS found it, and displayed it's name and ip correctly. Ran the wizard and it went all very smoothly.

Then the problem started. I could not see the NAS in windows 7 network. I've tried so many solutions and settings, from going in to the regedit and changing Network security stuff, to uninstalling virus-software and deactivating windows firewall. Reset every setting on the Dovado router, and restarted like 100 times... Noting.
On my laptop with Windows Vista, the Netgear came up just fine and both showed up in "Network places" and under "Computers". I was also able to map it to a "drive" ieg z: without any problems.

I thought the Netgear was faulty and went to the store and got it exchanged for a Dlink-323 NAS instead.

When I came home and reinstalled that NAS (and removed the Netgear settings) It seemed to be the EXACT same problem. I can see the NAS on my Vista Laptop.

I set up a FTP and can connect to it from another computer on another network via Internet.

    The Facts:
I CAN ping the NAS from the Win7 computer, works just fine
I CAN connect to the NAS via FTP from the Win7 computer.
I CAN see the nas under "Storage Devices", but clicking on it, sends me to the Dlink setup http page (http://192.168.0.160)
I CAN'T acces the NAS via \\192.168.0.160 or \\192.168.0.160\media or with the Dlink name \\dlink-323 or \\dlink-323\media .. It just says that there's a network problem. "Are you sure you spelled correctly" etc...

I CAN connect and map the NAS from my Win Vista computer just fine, (that's via WiFi if that matters at all)
I CAN access and map the NAS as a drive from my Win XP computer (that's via network cable if that matters at all)

The thing is that I've also tried to connect to my Windows Vista shares from my Win 7 computer and failed there to. But I CAN see the Vista computer under "Network / Computers"

    Things I've tried:
    Disable Virus software
Disabled Windows software like firewall etc.
Changed in the registry, the Network security and encryption and stuff
Tried to disable the IPv6 and so on
Tried different settings for fixed IP and DHCP, nothing there...

Can't seem to find the solution to this maybe simple problem... So I hope there is a kind soul out there to help me.. I'm about to get too frustrated and cry

Forgot to write that I've tried to be both in and out of a "Homegroup"... I've set all computers to WORKGROUP, even the NAS.

I can't figure out why all those people on the internet, who have had this same problem, can't give me tips. I think maybe my first post was to long ...

    Hi!
When I changed to a new router (netgear rp614 to dovado 3gn) I got the same problem as you describe.
I solved i it by assigning a static IP 192.168.0.5 in the ReadyNAS and
"Add Static IP Address Assignment" inthe dovado 3gn router.
Hope I this tip can help you!

Thanx... but it didn't solve it.

Already had a Static IP on the Dlink...

Oh and an update, I changed the NAS from Netgear to Dlink, 'couse I thought that was the problem... But as it seems, the exact same problem occured with the Dlink 323.

My other Win 7 computer still works fine. The problem must lie within my Win 7 computer. A legit copy I might add.

TBH sounds like a firewall issue. If you can ftp, but not use port 80 (masterbrowser) there is something preventing it. Some firewalls will still interfere when disable and with them the only option is to remove them to test.

I had eset smart security installed and disabled and it still interfered. removed it and fine

    Good Luck

    Thanks... I've tried that too.

The thing is I CAN get on the Dlink via adminpage (port 80 http) and I can get on it and trasfer files via FTP too. But it's the process of mapping the drive via SMB o NFS or whatever....

Ive tried alot of guides to try and fix the problem. Everything from mapping with IP instead om name, to change in the registry of the Windows 7 computer. But the thing is... when I got my new laptop and istallet the same copy of Windows, it worked with that laptop instantly... I believe the problem lies within that computers installation or hadware.

As I mentioned somewhere before, can it be a LAN-card problem ? Because if I go to command prompt and type "IP CONFIG /ALL" I get över #200 disabled LAN Tunnel connections... The computer creates a lot of connections that aren't there... Maybe if I buy a cheap LAN card and dont use the motherboard to do just that ?
