    Dlink DIR-615 Router

    Just yesterday I bought a dlink dir-615 router for my other computer, a windows xp. I have three different ones, two windows sevens, and the aforementioned xp.

    The only one with a working internet connection is my laptop and I was told that I would be able to split that connection to the other computers with a router. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as I have been trying since yesterday to get a decent connection without having the warning sign: Network has limited access etc, etc.

    I can't even get a secure connection with my laptop because I had no router, and I was also told that this one would let me set up a secure connection.

    Along with the router I have a dlink wireless adapter that was supposed to pick up connections on my inactive computers, but the signals are so damn crappy its no use.

    A direct answer to a direct question would be of tremendous help though: Do I need a landline service from time warner to have this thing work? Because if I do, I think I'm going to smash it against the wall pretty soon.

    No smart language please, I'm new in this subject. Thanks.

    Is your laptop wireless or wired?
    What were you using/are still using for the laptop to stay on the internet?

    Double check that your modem is connected to the WAN jack of the Router. Then connect your PC's to the LAN jacks or use WIFI. I would reboot/power cycle your modem so that it reads the MAC address of the router. I would use a wired connection first time around to setup the router and make sure it works. Can you log into the routers web interface? By default it should be http://192.168.0.1/. By default there shouldn't be any password. Once you log in check the status and go from there.

    @Ryan2320
    I'm not entirely sure, I know its an internal wifi card/adapter/ etc etc that comes with the standard windows 7 laptops.

    @alphanumeric
    I don't even think I have a modem. I only use wifi and I was hoping to get it on my desktops, but now the router won't install its program on the laptop im on now (windows 7 home premium x64) and before I can get far on the others its always trying to connect to my neighbors landline connection, therefor refusing me access to any possible way around it.

    Also, as a side note, there are only like three different options for the cheap wifi card adapter and the router respectively so it might be easier than it seems, or just really complicated.

    Thanks guys for the replies guys ^^.

    When I said modem I was referring to your Cable or DSL modem. The unit provided by your ISP that provides your Internet. If the setup program won't work I would recommend connecting one of the routers LAN ports to one of your PC's with a network cable. Then open IE and type http://192.168.0.1/ into the address bar at the top. This should bring up the routers web interface where you can log in and do the setup. You could set it up over wireless but doing it over a cable connection is a lot easier. as soon as you start to setup your SSID and encryption you'll likely knock yourself off anyway and have to re-connect with the new settings. it's easier to do it just the once when its all setup. If 192.168.0.1 doesn't work post back and I'll tell you how to see if you are getting a connection to the router and what your IP address is etc.

    sounds like he has a wireless card in his laptop and wants to share that wireless connection with his desktop machines.

    I just read the original post over again and I think I'm even more confused now. Deja You, how are you getting Internet on your laptop now? That router is designed to share your Internet connection with multiple wired or wireless PC's. Internet connection being a wired network connection provided by your ISP. Maybe you should explain again in more detail how you have it connected and what you are trying to do.

    Not able to locate router during setup

    192.168.0.1 doesn't work-- Can you tell how to see if you are getting a connection to the router and what your IP address is etc. I've tried pinging the router address and that doesn't work.

    When I try to go to http://192.168.0.1 - get a message from IE that the page cannot be displayed.

    We've gone through resets, changing cables, even changed routers - still not able to make a connection.
