Win 7 XP Mode No Home Network Access

Have a new Win7 64x machine with XP Mode installed. I cannot access the home network from XP mode. I've tried changing the network settings on the Virtual Machine from NAT to the router, as suggested in several posts, shutting down the VM and restarting. Does not work. Is it possible for XP mode to access the network?

It looks like using bridge mode would work best for accessing your regular network. This Technet page describes the process pretty well.

In contrast, Bridge mode uses the network adapter on the host. This option appears in the drop down menu as the name of the adapter. In Figure 1 (Right), it is shown as Intel® 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection under Adapter 1. The VM is connected directly to the selected network connection of the Windows 7 host, and will behave like a separate physical computer on the same network.

    Did Not Work

thanks for the tip. I have seen this before on other forums and had tried it, but it does not work. I have seen on other forums now that the "Configure networking for virtual machines" note associated with the settings dialog box is generic, and MS has not implemented it for Win 7 in XP mode with the virtual machine. Frustration.

If the Technet site says it works and shows how to set it up then it will probably work.

Maybe the permissions or security settings needs to be adjusted before it will work, hard to say for sure unless I set this up myself and test it out.

I just tried this as well and it didn't work for me either. I set it to Bridged mode as the article described by changing from Shared Networking (NAT) to Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabyte Controller which is the network card in my computer.

Everything works except browsing the network. Issuing net view from a command only returns \\VIRTUALXP-26583 which is my XP Mode VM. I can do a net view by specifying the UNC name like net view \\webserver.

Problem turned out to be XP Mode sets the Workgroup name to WORKGROUP where I had named mine HOME. Renamed XP Mode Workgroup to HOME and it now works correctly.

TECHols, maybe you have a similar problem?
