It's just an anomaly.

Assuming you are pinging your router it may have had to handle another request before it could ping back or something like that.

This happens from time to time and it's nothing to worry about.

Unless its a one off thing, try hooking up your computer directly to the modem and see if the problem persists. If it doesnt, it may be a wireless issue. If the spikes occur at regular intervals, it could be device interference or the Wireless Zero Configuration service causing the problem (searching for alternate networks every few minutes).

Thanks for the information.

The high ping makes my mediaplayer freeze for a few seconds if I stream a movie from my PC to the mediaplayer.

The mediaplayer is connected via a wire to my router (Sitecom WL-341) and the router makes a wireless (Sitecom WL-302) connection with my PC. Ever since I installes Windows 7 Pro., I can't stream without this problem. When I had XP Pro, I never had any problems with streaming.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this, very irritating, problem?

1) Did you try wiring the computer to the router as I had suggested earlier?

2) Try pinging the router from another computer to rule out software/spyware issues/hardware issues.

3) Try resetting the router to factory settings.

4) Try changing the wireless channel.

1: Is not possible. Can't take the PC to my router and I don't have an cable that's long enough...

2: I pinged the router via a notebook with Vista and had the same high ping.

3: I will do this and see what happens.

4: I changed the channel from 11 to 8. Got a higer connectivity, but still the same high ping.

The notebook is wireless via a build-in lan card.

Since the notebook also has high pings, try hardwiring the notebook to the router, then ping.

The notebook is wired and get's a ping of <1ms everytime.

Isn't there an option for Windows 7 or my router so that I can allow my PC to stream without any interval?
