My internet network connection is weird

Ok i have internet connetion and all and internet explorer works fine. Any other programs i try to use says i dont have any internet connection at all. Here are a couple of examples. I recently brought starcraft 2 and when i try to install it, it said that im not currently connected to the internet. I downloaded Firefox. Same problems, it says unable to connect when clearly internet explorer works. Even my network setting says that im currently conneted to the internet. I tried allowing programs through my firewall and that didnt work. Firefox says that there's something wrong with my firewall or proxy. I tried alot of thing but i hope you guys have an answer.

If you uninstalled Norton then you do not have any protection. When you say you "still see it around" what on earth does that mean? It is either protecting your system or it isn't! Is your subscription up to date?

When Norton is uninstalled improperly or the installation becomes corrupted, somehow the program can completely disable certain services and registry values on your computer. I had a customer come in one time and his installation of Norton was corrupted and could not be removed via Programs and features. It would not allow him to connect to the internet, disabled his onboard NIC almost completely and was causing havoc as seen in the event viewer.

I used this tool: Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support and solved all his issues. I've never cared for Norton much, especially the systemworks program.

    Hope this helps.

Yes add me to that but I think we should remind the OP that running his PC on the net without any A/V is a dangerous thing to do. If he doesn't want Norton or if it is out of subscription then perhaps going to Microsofts Security Essentials would be a wise move.
    He can download from here:

Needs to make sure that Norton is completely removed especially the registry entries first though!
