Windows 7: Major connection problems on laptop at college

30 Aug 2010   #21

It would be bette r to ask the IT at your school since he can work on this issue hands on. If you want u can try that solution not sure if itll help. Good luck ma'am

Right click Local Area Connection left click on Properties. then highlight Internet Protocol version 4 and the Properties button will not be greyed out any longer so u click Properties and make sure a) and e) are checked. They should be checked by default. It doesnt really say a) or e). it is the 1st and 5th texts on the list in Properties Under the Networking tab. Then do the same with Internet protocol 6

I'm currently having a problem that sounds eerily identical to this. I too have an r580, and just today (yesterday now I guess) after I put it in sleep mode, and left for about 5 hours, I found it stopped connecting to the internet via my wired Ethernet connection. I have a blue cable, was using the wired internet as provided to me by the dorms, and now I only ever get a unidentified public network when I attempt to connect. I am going to go visit my campus Tech Support Tomorrow, but this is really quite a nuisance. I'd love to give you my ipconfig -all but I'm not using the wired connection atm, seeing as how I'm down in the lobby using my wifi. I can tell you my drivers are all up to date, both the ipv4 and ipv6 are set to obtain any and everything automatically, my cable does work (a friend was able to connect using the same port and cable, but with their machine), consequently the socket in the wall is live and well too. My computer acknowledges the ethernet cable when plugged in, but it just never identifies the darn network. So I end up with a Comp->x->network->internet with nothing working after the "x". I'm really unhappy with these turn of events... I'm going to go back up to my dorm after I post this and pull up the ipconfig while I'm using the ethernet cable to attempt to connect, so I can post a copy here.

Okay here are some screen pics folks. -this one is of the ipconfig -all (most of it) on the right, and of the network and sharing center on the left -this one has the rest of the ipconfig -all on the right, and the ipv6 settings opened up and shown on the left -last but not least, this one has ipv4 setting displayed on the left...

I spent hours and hours googling this nonsense, so I have a basic understanding of what you might try to tell me to fix....

some more info: I don't have the ICS on, so that's not the issue.
I'm fairly competent, but some of the tech jargon is a bit over my head...
Also if you need it, I can provide you with the info that pops up from running belarc advisor, you know, if that would be useful to anyone....

Let me know what all you would suggest I do, and I'll let you people know what the Tech Support says when I go see them tomorrow...
