Can't connect to router; wrong passphrase.

So I recently installed W7 on my computer (not the one you see in My System Specs, a different one). Was all good unitll trying to connect to the router.

When entering the network security code, it seems to be incorrect, though I am sure it is.

The USB adapter is an Edimax EW-7711UAn

The router is some Belkin 'N'

Much appreciated.

EDIT: And also, ethernet cable(s) are not detected.

The USB adapter is a 802.11n, is the router? Perhaps that is the source of the problem. Do you need to force the Edimax to 802.11B/G mode somehow?

Also, try changing the encryption method of the router. Maybe the Edimax doesn;t support the one you are using.

1st, thanks for the reply!

I use the same adapter and operating system as the copmputer downstairs with the problems And no, the router is 802.11

And also, I didn't really finish off my main post properly. When I try to connect, I get a message saying, 'Enter security code' and beneath it it says something about pressing a button on the router, which I've already tried. And for some reasing, it will accept anything I type. But then, another small window pops up, also tells me to enter the security code. But the windows looks different, and won't accept anything I type.

What encryption method are you using in the router, WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA/TKIP? Try changing it.

I THINK it is WEP or WPA2, and it isn't possible to change, as the ethernet port on the computer is redundant.

Although you have not mentioned trying this I thought I might. You stated you are using the same adapter downstairs with success, I would suggest moving the adapter to the downstairs PC to verify it will work there since the identical one is working now. If that works I'd try the working one at the non working PC location, it may simply be it's not capable of finding the radio signal from the upstairs location and you may need a repeater.
