Island network yellow exclamation in network icon

Hi, I have 10 windows 7 machines on a 2008 domain with no Internet connection (this is by design) the network is not to have internet connection as it is an island network, in Windows 7 networking likes to have an internet connection and if not available displays a yellow exclamation mark on the network icon within the taskbar for each client. I would like to know how to get rid of the yellow exclamation on the clients.

    Thanks for anybody's help.

Does the server have an internet connection and you don't want the devices to have internet, or the server itself doesn't have internet and you don't want it to?

Hi, the server has no internet conection and I don't want it to have or any of the workstations come to that. I just want to supress the yellow exclamation but leave the network icon visable so that users are aware of a network connection, but just don't want to have a permenant yellow exclamation icon. thanks

I know this is silly but have you disabled the adapter on the server?

    What adaptor do you mean?
If I disable the network adaptor on the server then I will loose connectivity to the rest of my networked workstations?

Yeah I probably should have asked more questions. Sorry. We have server 2008 and the computers that we didn't want to have internet access to we disabled the adapters. Are you static or DHCP?

There are some settings in the group policy editor that might have an effect on the visbility of that icon. I havn't tested them out but there are some that look like they might work. gpedit.msc gets you there.

Thanks chev65 you are correct. I have finally found out the answer. If you are running Windows server 2008 R2 edition then you can find this policy in Group Policy editor and it will take effect for your Windows 7 machines. If not like me I am running Windows server 2008 standard then this is not an option within Group Policy editor on the server so must be done as a local policy change on the workstations.

You are right and it can be found in:-
    Local Computer Policy
    Administrative Templates
    Network
    Network Connections
Do not show the "local access only" network icon
    Select this to enabled.

Logoff and on and this will make the yellow exclamation icon disapear.
