    Ping

Your ISP is pinging your connection for status. That will show up as traffic.

Various reasons, one is your ISP wants to know if your connection is still valid. There other reasons that pertains to their servers.

Why is my modem activity light constantly flashing RCN Forum FAQ

    One of my "Quirks"
If I know I will be away from the PC for a while, working on the property, shopping etc. I'll leave the PC on, but just reach over and power down my DSL modem.

By the time I sit down my connection is re-established.

    You're welcome.

The other reasons could include monitoring of your traffic to ensure that you don't go over the download limit for your current plan.

Your welcome Wicca, and please excuse my bad manners for not first welcoming you to W7F :) Enjoy your stay here.

To make sure this topic is done for you; it would help if you would kindly mark this solved.
Go to your first post, then to the red triangle, type in solved, and one of the mods will take care of it from there.
