    HomeGroup problems (Junctions? Permissions?)

    Hi SevenForums gurus!

I've utilised this forum a few times to fix issues with my Seven installs, so thanks for this awesome resource...

With that out of the way, my current problem is my inability to get HomeGroup to work properly...

On my PC I have Win 7 Pro with my OS installed on a 64GB SSD. I have my Users and Program Files junctioned to my 1.0TB data drive...

When I set up a HomeGroup on either my PC, or my media server (Win 7 Ult) I can see the media server in the HomeGroup but I can't open any of its libraries... on the server I can sometimes see my PC, but I can't get any sharing options to stay on my PC thus the server normally reports "no homegroup computers found"...

Both harddrives include files/folders from previous installs (I recently shuffled some harddrives around to finish building a second gaming PC), so I'm wondering if it could be a ownership/permission problem... as far as I can tell the right users own the right folders, and the HomeUsers seems to appear to have permission in the relevant folders when I click "Share with: HomeGroup"...

I'm getting really frustrated with this, and in the meantime I'm going to setup standard sharing, but I'd like to utilise the library function if I can... I spent a few hours last night setting up IPv6 on my network (which included flashing my router with DD-WRT) thinking that must be the problem, but still no avail!

    Help me Obi-Wan Sevenobi!

Try going through this Homegroup trouble shooting guide in the link below. There are a few common problems that can occur when setting up a Homegroup, this check list should help you fix most of the typical problems.

After going through this check list if you are having a specific problem let me know what it is and we can go from there. :)

Hi chev, thanks for the info, but alas I've already looked through that troubleshooter multiple times

Somehow I got it working while trying to get my sister-in-law's (who is living with us currently) netbook to authenticate on the server...

I've got it set to password protected sharing and user authentication... it meant creating some user accounts on the media server (which I'll hide later) but for now it's working and I'll leave it at that!

Sounds like you did it the hard way to me LOL. I would only set up seperate User accounts if I was going to use Homegroups in a mixed Op system network. Glad you got it working in either event.
