    network printer

I have a home network with one printer connected to one of the computers. The printer operates as a local printer for that computer but it can not be accessed by the other computers and it does not show up in the network map. How to resolve this ussue? Thanks

    OK

Forgive me these are the obvious things. Next from "Devices an Printer Panel" focus on your printer. Select "Printer Properties". My right click dropdown menu on the printer has two properties selections the one you want is "printer properties". Under the sharing tab make sure the appropriate boxes are ticked.

Once you have confirmed that. I ask on the clients have you installed the printer if not try installing them on the clients.

my network map does not show the printer. It is wired via a usb to one of the computers. Using "add a printer" leads to dead ends

sorry , i retrieved the map that shows the printer and it is set to be shared but nothing happens when i try to access from the other computers. The problem might be in selecting the right port. What should it be?

This has work for me several times. Move the printer to the network computer temporarily to connect it & install the drivers for it as a local printer on the network computer. Then move it back to the original computer. Connected & turned on. Then try to search & add printer from the network computer.

Stop using the map and any other gimmicky networking options. Always stick to the tried and true, proper methods of networking. Also make sure simple file sharing is disabled as well.

Now, on the computer that's trying to use the printer as a networked device, try this in the Run box:

\\computername and hit enter, where computername is the nam of the computer that has the printer connected to it. If that fails, try it as \\ipaddress instead. If both of those fail, you don't have the printer properly shared out.

Thanks for all the advice. I was able to locate the printer on computer A from computter B. It is a relatively old Samsung laser printer series SCX 4100. However; I was no able to proceed with printing because computer B could not find the right driver. Computer A had found sometime ago a driver but I do not know the location of the driver inncomputer A. Is it advisable to download from the internet to computer B? The sites that offer drivers are not the Samsung official site. How to proceed. Thanks!!

Thanks for all the advice. I was finally able to have all computers share the printer. Downloaded the driver from the Samsung official site.
