Windows 7: ICS Not Working

ICS Not Working

Here is my setup:

Wireless Connection -> Laptop
Laptop -> Router
Desktop -> Router

I am trying to get the desktop to use the internet connection from the wireless, through the laptop, but I am having a lot of difficulty getting it to work.

When I enable ICS on the laptop it creates a network called Network, and it appears that the desktop connects to this, but it says "No Internet Access" and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have read the official Microsoft ICS instructions and several other tutorials and I'm not sure what the problem is. Has anyone set up an ICS this way before?

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

Hello machinus,
Normally ICS is used with a wired connection. I'm not sure why you need to use ICS if you have a router but if you want to share a wireless connection it's usually required to turn the wireless machine into a wireless hotspot by using a third party program called connectify. :)

I have two routers and I'm just using the second one as a "hub" because the ICS instructions say to do so. I could just plug it in directly to the desktop which is what I am doing.

I need ICS because the wireless is too far for the desktop adapter to pick up but I can use the laptop to connect both. I have had it working intermittently but the instructions I have read on various forums seem split between static IP and DHCP. I have had unreliable success with both and am not sure the standard procedure for:

Wireless Connection -> Wireless Card in Laptop -> CAT 5 -> NIC In Desktop

At the moment I am using double DHCP without any ip specification and I am worried this will cause IP conflicts, but static IP seems to fail after only a few minutes or not connect at all.

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

Double DHCP will usually cause problems, in fact dual router set ups aren't exactly a supported configuration so might not work very reliably for you.

I would try using a regular switch instead and see if you can get it working that way.
