Ethernet Connection Problem - Help please

Okay, so my Sony Vaio (Fseries) is having troubles when an ethernet cord is plugged in. Naturally I use a hardline to game and just recently, it seems that my computer recognizes that I am connected via ethernet but cannot use the internet connection. I've tried to fix it. I'd appreciate any information, it can only improve my computer skills. Thank you.

Also, while I have wireless internet enabled; when i plug the ethernet cord in, it quits using the internet. Like, it says cannot connect to any web pages or game servers.

Its odd that it knows im connected to the network but cannot utilize the internet connection. Im baffled.

    hi

i think i had the same sort of problem, the computer recognises that the wire is connect but it says no internet access. what i did was to refresh the driver (basically disable the wire and re-enable it). and then it reconnected saying internet access.

just locate the ethernet cable and disable and re-enable. if that doesnt work then try to turn off the wireless and doing it.

the wireless connection is slower than the wired connection and Im used to using it.

    hope it helps....

p.s. im using win 7 x86 32 bit so it might be different??

Your wireless connection stops when you plug in the ethernet cable because the wired connection is always used when both wired and wireless are active. Might be worth updating to the latest driver for your ethernet I think.

    Ok i've had similar problem; Acer Aspire desktop, was successfully connecting through internal wireless adapter for months. Then decide to run ethernet cable from FIOS Actiontec WMR424 modem/router to ethernet connection; disabled the wireless card. at first it connected fine; download speed of 20 Mpbs, instaed of 10 over wireless N. then 1 hour later, cannot connect via ethernet...it kept asking for the username and passsword for FIOS modem. Finally got it working by resetting the modem password from another connected pc on the modem;

    • but now i'm only getting 9-15 Mbps download speed with ethernet. could that be related just to internet traffic at that time, and not a bad connection?
    • also not sure if i should select Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller as the default; or, ppoe wan miniport.
    • does the ethernet port have only one network adapter available to it? After trying to set up with wan miniport PPOE, I see Broadband 1, Broadband 2, 3; but maybe I set those up erroneously. Maybe i don't worry about the default adapter card...
    • also, at times when connected, the network was named after the wireless network name...does that mean i was connected to the wireless network, even though my wireless card was disabled? is it a problem? Should i keep it disabled, or enable it?
    • should i try to update driver for the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller; if so, I need to do that thorugh Microsoft Updates, correct? ask if i need any new drivers?
    • so i have the internet now; but not sure if i'm using the correct adapter; or, wireless instead of wired; cuz i'm seeing slower download speeds.
    • This all happened within an hour of disabling the wireless adapter, and connecting the ethernet cable to pc from Actiontec modem/router. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit; a Netgear WRN2000 wireless router supplies the wireless signal, and is ethernet connected as secondary, to the Actiontec primary router. Mix of 7, XP, Airport Express (wirelessly connected for Airtunes), and 2 android phones. (why does android only get 54 Mbps from the wireless N network? does it only use wireless G?)
    • thanks for all your help! pdoyle
    • attached is system specs from Belarc Advisor scan...
