    PPoE connection using wireless?


    Hi,

    I have been trying to figure out something and would appreciate some help/guidance.

    I am picking up a wireless signal on my laptop called "XYZ"; the admin of the router emitting that signal gave me a userid and password which I can use to connect to the internet using the "XYZ" wireless connection.

    I am using Windows 7 and I cant figure out how to connect to a wireless connection using a userid and passwd? I mean usually when i connect to a wireless connection i just have to type in a key.

    Please let me know if anyone has any idea about this or if i need to explain my question again...

    What format is the xyz domain using. Is it PPoE, encrypted or not, IPv6, or IPv4. I think the best place to start is with XYZ admin.

    I have seen this type of login on several semi open wireless AP systems, and it is used by the main Telecom provider and a large Pub chain here in the UK.

    There is no wireless key involved and the AP will actually show as "open" or "Unsecured" when scanned.

    When you attempt to visit a website or such for the first time you should be re-directed to a log-in screen, which is where you enter the user name and password you have been given or purchased. This is then set to give you access for either a pre-set time or permanently dependent on the router/ re-direct sit's software set-up.

    If the system is not working in this way then you should take this up with you system administrator, also be aware that this type of connection, due to it using un-secured wireless, is not suitable for critical purposes such as banking

    to set-up a PPoE on a wireless router you need up-to three sets of credentials, the wireless key to access the router, the router user/password, to access the router settings, and finally the PPoE user/password to enter into the router settings to access the ISP's service.

    If you are attempting to set your own PPoE access on this router you will need all the credentials -- again refer to the system administrator
