Wireless network connection lost internet connection

Hi everyone,

I work in an office where we have a main desktop computer which is connected to the internet via a Time Warner modem. The modem is connected by cable to a netgear wireless router, and up until today there have been no problems connecting to the internet from the laptops that use the wireless connection.

Today, for no reason, with no changes, upgrades, or anything different at all, I am now getting the message that my laptop sees the wireless network, but claims the network has no internet access (not true; I am able to connect to the internet from the desktop, which is where I'm typing from). So we have internet coming into the office and the desktop, but suddenly the router isn't broadcasting the wireless signal any more.

I ran windows network diagnostics several times and I've gotten different responses, one said "wireless connection doesn't have valid IP configuration", another said "the default gateway is not available", and "tourbleshooting couldn't identify the problem". !!

I'm reasonably computer savvy and I can follow instructions, so does anyone have any ideas where I should start? Many thanks!

The first thing to try is to power everything off, Cable mode, router and computers. Then power them on again in sequence. Cable modem, router then computer. Let each device settle down before going on to the next.

Sometimes, I really hate computers!

Ok, I rebooted router and modem countless times already today, ran diagnostics multiple times, restarted laptop computer, lather, rinse, repeat, etc.

Suddenly after I do a simultaneous reboot of router, modem and laptop ... it starts working. A supreme WTF moment!

Of course, the real answer is I posted a question here on the forum so it decided to start working again just to embarrass me.

I had the same issue with Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 router and my laptop running on Windows 7. Tried all sorts of thing as suggested in various forums but nothing helped. But finally the following worked.

Please check the following to see if it resolves your issue (worked in my case) :

1) Login to the linksys router WRT54GL (type in IE and use admin/admin to log in.)
2) Go to Wireless tab. Note the Wireless Network Mode. Normally it is set as "MIXED"
3) On your laptop, click on wiress icon in taskbar, go to Open Network And Sharing Center>> Change adapter settings>>right click on wireless adapter >> properties >> Configure >> Advanced tab. Scroll down to select "IBSS Mode" and check the Value on right side. It should be same same as that of router (I set to 802.11b/g auto from drop down list). Click Ok to save the settings.
4) Restart your wireless and it should work.

Lost wired but not wireless connection to my network
I'm going nuts. My PC will not connect to my wired network, but it will connect to it wirelessly through an USB N adapter (I couldn't afford the downtime). My desktop has recently been upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from XP. I set up a home group at another location, then returned the desktop to my normal connection.
