Connected with no internet access

Up until last night my main computer's internet has been really good, when trying to access the internet today it just decided that I have no internet access.

I am connecting wirelessly using an Edimax EW-7718Un usb adapter which has been good up until now.

I have read other posts and tried many of the things stated there apart from changing my mac address as when looking to change it I cannot find where to change it.

I would appreciate any help with this.
Scott

Welcome to SF, Corpsus. Please fill out more completely your System Specs.

Power down - wait one minute - Power up your wireless router
Power down - wait one minute -Power up your modem

Then we can go from there

What if you go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /all
What do you see. Can you do a screen capture?
Can you ping outside using ip address
Can you ping your wireless router?
Can you connect to your wireless router via Ethernet cable?
Can another device/pc connect to wi-fi?

That is what I see when doing ipconfig /all

I can ping outside to other computers on the network and the wireless router and also the other computers on the network can ping me.

At the moment I physically can't connect the computer to the router as it's in a mates room and I don't have a long enough ethernet cable.

And all other things I have which are wireless can connect.

Well, you have an ip address, and a dns address is listed.

Enter this URL:

If you go to newegg, then you are having trouble resolving dns.

Try this and let me know.

There's a problem with your DNS. Go to your ISP and tell them what you have done. Let them know your DNS address listed. Ask them if their DNS server is having problems and what to do to resolve it. They may want you to hard code another DNS address on your ip configuration.

Please let us know what you find out.

Looks to me like somebody typed your DNS servers manually into your IPv4 properties rather than designating the DNS server addresses in the routers set up page which usually works best.

You should be seeing the default gateway 192.168.0.1 for your DNS which means it's getting the info from the router instead. I use google's DNS myself which is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but you will want to enter those into your routers set up page, not your IPv4 properties window. Those DNS addresses should be removed from your IPv4 properties window and set to obtain DNS servers automatically.

Most likely just removing the DNS entries from your IPv4 properties window and setting to obtain DNS automatically will fix the problem because the router probably has DNS assigned.

To access the router and change the setting just type 192.168.0.1 into your URL but you will need to know the routers password to access the page.
