Charter has instituted Power Boost which I believe is also available through Comcast and probably others. Though it's great for speed tests, it becomes more difficult to determine is you have any problems with your service.

One result taken this morning. I have a 20MB/2MB service, I've hit the 30MB mark one time with Power Boost. Since Charter has deployed this feature in early November, my average download speeds are 23.5MB. Upload has never been a problem for me. I will hit the 2MB just about every speed test.

virgin media dont offer 5mbit.. are you on the 10mbit and using wireless? i have the 20mbit and get full 20mbit all the time on the ethernet but using wireless like now i get 10mbit only..

plus try another server you might get better speeds.. like sweeden or somewhere different with better uploads

wish i was on the 10mb,i'm on the 20mb as it was the only package that was unlimited usage.according to the phone number check the most i can get is 6mb anyway, sky reckon 4mb with them.it is wireless but i get about 5.5mb when using ethernet so hardly a difference wireless anyway.this is from master bt socket with i-plate.wish virgin would extend their cable another 50ft onto my road and from sweden at least it's consistent :)

ouch! so why dont you downgrade to the 10? both have caps. the 10mbit has a 7GB cap and no upload cap and 10mbit i forget..

Virgin Media Broadband:Traffic management - & Traffic management has the cap limits.

but since you dont recieve 20 why not drop to the 10?

i dont know if i will recieve 50 but am happy with the 20 and my bt line wont give me more then 11mbit and at 11mbit it drops like a yoyo so a comfortable 8mbit is ok and works properly compared to the full 20mbit anytime mninus getting capped all the time for 5 hours :@

5mbit is a good speed though back at home i am on 2 i only have this virgin media for 20 days
