    So you can tell how fast your NIC is by the numbers on the back of the pane,
    If you have a gigabit NIC, it would say: 10/100/1000
    If you have a 100 megabit NIC, it would say: 10/100
    If you have a 10 megabit NIC, its time to upgrade.

    I still have a PCMCIA 3Com 10 Mbit wired NIC sitting on a shelf. Thing's so old even Windows 98 has native drivers for it.

    I upgraded to the 20Mb cable just before I installed SP1 and like Digerati, my speeds remained the same:
