The Ferrari analogy just doesn't apply.

ATT just sent me a letter informing me they're going to place bandwidth caps on their service. 150GB for regular dsl, 250GB a month for U-verse.
It looks like the Ferrari analogy applies to you now!

No it doesn't. There's a difference between how fast and how much.

FYI, they sent that letter to every ATT customer... it's their new global policy. Since it's a material change in the contract it allows anyone stuck in one of their contracts to get out of it without penalty.

Funny thing is, with Sonic there are no caps, despite the fact it's still on ATT's lines. For the same price I'm calculating I'll get twice the speed.

Really? At the online Ferrari speed of 700 Mbps of how long will it take you to reach your current AT&T bandwidth cap? Great speed matters little when you have such a short distance to go.

Yes, really... because it would be incorrect to assume that our usage would increase simply because bandwidth does. It would only mean that we would have to wait less time to do what we do daily. To put it simply: it does not mean we would watch 2 movies a night instead of 1. There are still only 24 hours in a day.

Having said that, of course it means we could increase usage if we wanted to. As it stands, even with U-Verse, my wife and I can't steam 1080p youtube videos without interruptions... and the wife loves her some youtube... but fear not, we're not going to reach the end of the internet.

It also would mean that Netflix would no longer be crippled by ISP's; if the States had decent internet like the rest of the civilized world, then they would be able to stream in 1080p, as opposed to the current 720p limit they're now forced to abide by.

The current ATT policy is to charge $10.00 for every 50GB of bandwidth over the user's limit. This policy has been in place for more than a month now. We don't use 250GB's a month, or at least if we do we haven't been charged for it yet... either way, we're still going with Sonic because the cap just puts a bad taste in our mouths... and we feel that if the service can't even allow us to stream 2 1080 videos at the same time, then it sucks to begin with.

    Hi Barman
My family has been moving East for 6 generations, beginning from Machynlleth.
Looks like the East and West of Britain have equally poor speeds. This is mine:
