Well according to the Virgin media account I currently get "up to 60Mb" and I will be upgraded to "up to 100Mb" between May and July 2014 at "no extra monthly cost". Whether the upload will increase time will tell. One hopes it will increase to 5Mb/s from 3Mb/s.
That is the down side to Virgin there Upload speeds .. Apart from that can not complain been a very good Service
Yea it's a bit unfortunate that the extra £5 a month only upgraded the download speed, but hey, as long as they upgrade the upload speed when they put everyone's speeds up this summer I'll be happy. The majority of the times I've tested my speed I've gotten over 60Mb/s download speed and just under 3Mb/s upload, so I can't really complain that I'm not getting the speed we're paying for.
True they threw in a Tivo Box for me Free .. Have never used it though . I see they are giving away Netflix free for six months too
Always had good speeds and good service on Virgin Media but not available in my area, totally happy again now though with the PlusNet FTTC service 73M down and 17M up on a 80/20 service at £35 a month including phone
Yea we signed up for their starter package so we got free Tivo as well. We've not used it either, but that is mainly because we don't have room on the TV stand to put the box. So until we reshuffle the living room so the TV is on the wall and the hifi unit is underneath we won't be using it.
My only bug with Virgin TV is that you can't pick and choose the channels you want like you can with Sky, you have to upgrade your whole package to get more channels, and only the top one has all the HD channels :/.
Nomad, it's quite interesting that you can get FTTC but you can't get Virgin. Virgin is only FTTC and they run Copper Cable to the premises and into the Superhub and Tivo box. AFAIK BT are the only people who can do FTTP, but I suspect that some commercial companies may be able to do it as well.
Yes you are right, I think virgin do tend to use their own network but could be wrong, I had a virgin spotter tell me that I could have their broadband but after checking their website which says it isn't possible and after contacting them about four times only to be told someone would call me back, got a bit fed up of it and opted instead for plusnet. Similar price, similar service, its routed through a BT modem and into a plusnet router...
Here is the page showing all my results from various tests on my plusnet, it shows how stable my line speed is over time...

And the line quality....not bad for FTTC
Regularly achieving 73M down and 17M up...
