Windows 7: Issue connecting to networked printer on XP from Win 7 computer

How is the printer attached to the network. Seems like it has an internal network card but it also seems like you are using an XP machine to share it on the network. So rather than using a local port and pointing it at the XP machine like \\XpMachineName\PrinterShareName. Have you considered adding a tcp port and use simple tcp printing (with the actual IP address of the printer) and then see if the driver might work? If it's physically attached to the XP machine using a usb or parallel port disregard the previous. Consider attaching it to the Win7 machine and see if you can print to it if you have the usb port or lpt port option.

Where did you find the XP drivers? The only ones I can find for XP don't have an .exe file to install, just the .ipi file

Cheers!

@patwhatsthat It's phisically attached to the XP with parallel, and I don't have a parallel port on my Win 7, and the printer doesn't have USB

but like I say they don't have an .exe file to run in compatibility mode

You need to extract the files to a location of your choice...

You will then need to click Start -> Devices and Printers -> 'Add Printer' and direct the installer to where you unzipped the files.
Note   Note
You may have already done this but as we have 2 different download sites it's worth a try

These ones don't have a .exe file either, so should I still restart and do the F8 thing before installing and skip the compatibility view?

Tried F8 and disabling but still no joy. Also, when I install the printer it will only allow me to point to an .ipi file, I can't point to a folder with all of the files in it - could this be a problem?
