Thank you. I figured that out. Feel like a big dummy. Will go exchange it this evening. But I still have another problem. The Windows 7 32 bit computer will not connect to the internet even when plugged directly into the modem. When we check the hardware it says the device is working properly. The light is on and we changed cables around to check the cable. Is it possible the device got fried in the storm and isn't working properly even though the hardware manager says it is?

It's possible, I've seen stroms ruin machines on more than one occasion but most of the time you can fix it with either resetting the router or using some IP commands or by doing a hard shut down or clearing the cmos and setting the bios to default.

To reset the machine, Shut down and Unplug machine then push the start button for five seconds. Plug back in the machine, restart then set the bios to default settings and save, shut down then go back into the bios and reset important bios settings to how they were before the reset. Sometimes you need to clear the cmos and start over again after a storm or electrical problem.

I would install the new router first then Run the batch file below on the Win 7 machine with the problem which will reset TCP/IP, reset winsock and refresh renew your IP.

Download Renew IP + Reset Winsock Batch File

If you are still having problems after you install the new router then post a screen shot of your ipconfig /all from the problem machine and we can go from there.

Quote: Well, yesterday, we bought a new wired router (Netgear GS105).

Everyone just assumed that the GS105 was a router, but when I checked the netgear page low and behold it was only a switch.

Sounds good lainieball, I'm glad the reset link helped fix the problem for you.
