Although you may need to give your router's MAC address to your ISP, it shouldn't have any impact on the router not assigning a local IP address to the other computers. To test this, turn off all of the computers, disconnect the router from the modem, and unplug the modem. Wait about 30 seconds, then plug the router back in (leaving it disconnected from the modem), and turn on all of the computers. See if all of them have local IP addresses assigned.

Thank you. I have tried the last suggestion, but not in safe mode. At work right now, but will do as soon as possible.

baraka607, what is "ctrl+shift+enter" supposed to do?

Also, shouldn't that last command be "netsh winsock reset catalog" to reset Winsock to installation defaults?

Hmmm I think I might be inclined to install the latest firmware on the router before I did anything else.

    Answer

It says none are needed for this product and none are available. It didn't come with a disc. Our next step I think is returning it for a different one.

Bingo we have a winner, that isn't a router it's a switch! Huge difference between the two, it's hard to believe it took this long to figure this out.

Of course you can't update the firmware on a switch because only routers use firmware updates.

You will need a router for this network to work. You can use that switch to connect other machines to your router through the eithernet cable but for DHCP or static Ip's to work you need a router.
