    Netgear WGR614 probs

Hi Guys, can you help. I have a Netgear WGR614 router connected to my pc which has not been very secure for some time, naughty I know! Today I set it up securely and now my partners laptop can't get into the network. I set it up from the laptop successfully but when I typed in the requested 27 digit WEP key, I got this messeage: " The settings saved on this computer do not match the requirements of the network".

I am running OS Win 7137, but it worked perfectly before I made my pc secure.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

UPDATE. After further fiddling with the laptop. I don't get that message any more. The laptop does try to connect to Netgear (Shown as a secure network), but fails.

    hey and welcome
For a really quick test if you turn off wep can the laptop connect? then re-enable either wep or a different secure mode your netgear supports and try it again. that way you can narrow down whether its wep or connectivity.

    hope you get it

BY now i assume you turned off WEP? Excellent signal strength just means a faster data transfer. If you right-click the networking icon does it say connected or not connected but there are networks avail, or does it say no networks avail?

Limited connectivity. IPv4 Limited. IPv6 limited.

    SSID: NETGEAR
The icon is blue with yellow exclamation mark. Thank you

Limmited connectivity often happens when you dont have dns/dhcp. Have you re-booted the modem/router/computer in a row?

What do you mean, in a row? I have re-booted them all but not in a particular order. Is that what you mean?

Thanks for sticking with me on this, zigzag. I'm going to hit the sack now, my friend. It's sleepy time here in the uK, lol.

    Thanks again.

    Hi again, zigzag,

I've just plugged a cable from the Netgear router directly into the laptop and I can get full access to the internet. Does this help you in any way?

    Cheers

If your on virgin broadband you need to plug in the virgin modem and leave a min or 2 before you plug in the netgear, for some reason if you don't you get limited connection.
