if it wasnt configured properly or any ports were being blocked by the firewall, wouldnt that prevent me from connecting to it from PC1 in the first place?
im connecting using IP..

If the RDC (remote desktop connection) port is blocked then that will not work you will still be able to connect to the internet.

also if port 3389 was being blocked i wouldnt be able to RDC to PC2 from PC1 using PC2's internal IP..

To connect via your external IP address, you'll need to remember that all computers in the network will have the same external IP. Call it 66.67.109.144. Try changing the RDP port on PC2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber, and change that number from 3389 to 3390.
- Be sure all firewalls are either disabled are set to allow Remote Desktop through that port.
Now try connecting to 66.67.109.144:3390, and hopefully that will do the trick.

ICS isn't made to do RDC, you really need a router for this. It's a waste of time doing it any other way. Set up the router then use the tutorial below to set up the machines for RDC "the easy way".

As far as jumping through hoops to try this without a router,... what would be the point, especially when the OP has a router already. We can more easily help the OP with the router set up then it would be to get RDC working without a router, which I've never done before or even heard of anyone trying before.
Routers aren't difficult to set up at all but sometimes firmware updates are required to get them working right with Windows 7.

Here is a message someone on another forum sent me:Since he's using a cross over cable bet the 2 computers, the ipconfig /all results will be diff, one will show a 169.X.X.X address, therefore chev65' 'ICS isn't made to do RDC' is correct and he needs to get a router.
Note: He might try to install TeamViewer or UltraVNC, it might work, if he's gonna go for that.

i do not have a cross-over cable.. like i said, all my mobos got dual-NIC's..
n even if i did, how does he come up with 1 computer having IP 169.*? lol
alright, i know im stubborn but that doesnt mean i cannot be right on occasion..
there is NO WAY ima get a router in here! like i said, im allergic (i could die!)
Chev, u really had me start believing that RDC worked in such a unique way that i'd really have no choice but to get a router
but here's what i did:
1. opened up Google
2. typed in "port forwarding software"
3. clicked the first result (link)
4. set up Listen Port (3390), Dest. IP (192.168.0.213), Dest. Port (3390)
5. run RDC on PC1, connect to 127.0.0.1:3390 (also worked with public IP, obviously)
6. guess what happened
